Real estate hedge funds mostly invest in REITs, a corporate entity structured like a mutual fund that invests entirely in real estate and is tax excluded. REITs, in return, have to pay at least ninety percent of their income as dividends. However, that earing may be subject to tax for the REIT’s investors.
A real estate hedge fund invests its money by acquiring actual properties, particularly flopping ones, at a low price. This land can be obtained in a specific region or around the world, but they are generally up for sale due to the scarcity of liquidity on the seller’s part. Unlike REIT investing hedge fund, a real estate hedge fund holds real estate.
